The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum preserves for all Americans the stories of courage, character and patriotism displayed by the men and women of the Eighth Air Force from World War II to the present.

Curtis William Tarr was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Stockton, Calif., and served with the Army in Europe during World War II. He received a bachelor’s degree at Stanford University, a master’s degree in business administration at Harvard University and a doctorate in American history at Stanford University. His dissertation focused on the armed services.

Curtis William Tarr was an American academic best known for his role in the reform of the Selective Service System—in particular, of the draft lottery, which had been criticized for being insufficiently random. Tarr also served as the seventh dean of the S.C. Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University, and as the twelfth president of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.
